“If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never again regain their respect and esteem.” --Abraham Lincoln

I agree with recent polls which indicate that 70 percent of Americans feel that our country is headed in the wrong direction. In my opinion the Bush /Cheney right wing neo-cons have brought us foreign and domestic disasters. My blog is launched to help mobilize support for a whole new direction in foreign and domestic policy.

To me the most important day in modern American history was Pearl Harbor , December 7, 1941 , because our country was instantly and totally united. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt gazed on the graves of still smoldering sunken ships and in four years lead a united America to incredible heights and world moral leadership.

The second most important date was September 11, 2001 when America was again attacked. President George W. Bush standing in the smoldering ruins of the Trade Center attack grabbed the microphone and instantly united our county against the terrorists. However, at end of six years we look out not on victory but to more smoking wreckage. After 30,000 US casualties and the waste of one trillion dollars (that is one thousand billion) we continue to destroy an innocent Iraq . Bush is escalating that war in spite of overwhelming opposition of Americans and most of the world. Master terrorist Osama Bin Laden is still at large and Bush is threatening to bomb Iran . Domestically we look on the disasters of Katrina; Guantamano; staggering national debt; mass weakening of the middle class; an avalanche of illegal aliens; and great threats to our judicial system.

The third most important date will be January 20, 2009. A new president must again unite our county. Democrats, Republicans and Independents must come together behind the new President and Congress to repair the damage of the Bush/ Cheney right-wingers. Together we must address our real problems including global warming; overpopulation; medical care; world terrorism; globalization and world hunger and poverty.

I start this blog as a member of what some have called “The Greatest Generation”. My adult life began with Pearl Harbor . In my career of public service in war, government and now ministry my generation and I have had experiences that may be helpful to our country. My priority will be to help stop the killing in Iraq and prevent Bush from attacking Iran .

I invite a dialogue pro and con and welcome your ideas.
